Arion Hotel Vienna Airport

Location: Schwechat, Austria

If you are a budget traveler, finding cheap hotels in Austria is a formidable challenge. Since no one travels through Austria without visiting Vienna, a smart idea is to look for hotels located on the outskirts of Vienna. The Arion Airport Hotel is one such great place to stay.

One of the more cheaper hotels in Austria, the Arion Airport Hotel was one of my favorite stays during our 2018 Europe road trip. We booked a Double Room for a reasonable rate. The room was clean and quite big by European standards. The bed was super comfortable to sleep in, and the linen and towels smelt freshly laundered. The bathroom is very spacious, and comes with a stand-in shower, pump dispensers, hair dryer, and a vanity mirror.

Considering we spent two nights here, I couldn’t have found a better place to stay. In addition, the Arion Airport Hotel provides guests with free parking which is a big plus if you are traveling with a rental car.

Note: Credit cards are accepted.

Gästehaus Sunkler

Location: Golling an der Salzach

After spending the good part of the day in Salzburg, we stopped at Gästehaus Sunkler for the night. Unlike your regular hotels in Austria, the Gästehaus Sunkler is a homely, cozy bed and breakfast. Easy to find, the place is perfect for overnight stopovers like ours.

There is free parking for guests, though you should email the owner ahead of time mentioning your time of arrival.

With three beds, our Double Room was on the larger side. The closets had hangers and fresh towels. The bathroom was clean, but came with no toiletries save a hand soap. The tiny heater also does a weird cycling thing, where you go from scalding hot water to super cold water. I managed to figure the mechanism, because given how chilly it was here even in May, I definitely didn’t want freezing water.

The WiFi was sketchy, so we had to stand near the entrance door to receive a proper signal. This was especially frustrating because we wanted to go over our driving route for the next day.

The next morning, we woke up to stunning views outside our window. Whether it is the green open fields or the beautiful Eastern Alps, the Gästehaus Sunkler is clearly located in the lap of Mother Nature. This was without a doubt, the most beautiful part of our stay here.

Note: Cash payments are common in many hotels in Austria. Though credit cards are claimed to be accepted at Gästehaus Sunkler, the owner will try to press for cash at the end of your stay. We didn’t budge and paid by card.
