It is just wonderful to have been nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award. There are simply insufficient words to express the feeling that comes when you know your work is being appreciated.
I’ve been nominated for this award by Irfan Quader, who’s blog The Good Life with IQ provides first hand information on travel, vegetarianism, sustainability and India. His posts beautifully capture the pulse of India, from the quaint and rustic, to the historic and spiritual. Readers can discover the joys of vegetarian delights, as well as how to inculcate sustainable practices while traveling. Go on, discover India through his posts. Thanks, Irfan!
What is the Blogger Recognition Award?
The Blogger Recognition Award is an award by bloggers for bloggers. It is a collaborative and creative effort by the blogger community to encourage each other. The award is a way of acknowledging the sheer hard work that goes into running a blog and generating quality material on a regular basis. Blogging is no easy feat, and many don’t realize how depressing and frustrating it can be to feel unnoticed. So, here’s to all my fellow bloggers out there, who work their butts off to post great content for our readers. You are amazing and I salute all of you.
The Story behind Musaafir the Bedouin
Writing was something that I had been passionate about for a long time. But my passion was for the most part limited to academic essays, research and speech writing.
In 2012, my sister passed away after a long battle with cancer. My mom and I decided to seek solace by pursuing NGO work in India. Since I had to shoulder the brunt of our family grief, I turned toward writing as a form of cathartic relief. And there, amidst the pitter patter of the monsoon raindrops, was born Musaafir the Bedouin.
I decided from the onset to focus my blog on my travels. My family and I have always been avid travelers and we also moved around quite a bit. At different stages of my life, I have called 5 countries my home: The Sultanate of Oman, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, India and the United Arab Emirates.
It has been a long journey and a progressive learning curve for Musaafir the Bedouin. The traveling bug never goes away. It’s an inherited trait! 😂
My Advice to New Bloggers
Scheduling: Be disciplined about your posting schedule. It makes no sense to put up 15 posts one week and then go MIA for 3 weeks. Set aside writing time and schedule your posts to go live at regular intervals. For example, you can schedule your posts about city night life recommendations on Friday evenings, and your restaurant reviews at Tuesday lunchtimes.
Stop Comparing: It’s very easy to get caught up with figures, followers, likes, etc. Sometimes when I find myself comparing my progress with others, I take a deep breath and stop. Nip the temptation in the bud before it consumes you. If not, you will find yourself becoming obsessive and depressed. But that’s not what blogging is all about. There’s no harm in taking pointers from others, but don’t get too stressed about it. Just love what you do and focus on that.
