What is a Sattvic Diet?

Soul Santé Cafe is Dubai’s only third 100% vegan restaurant. Founder Manisha Advani is the brain behind this initiative. Not only a committed vegan herself, Manisha is also a trained Pastry Chef from Zurich as well as a certified physical trainer and health coach from the USA. After grappling to find proper vegan desserts to satisfy her own sweet tooth, Manisha decided that balancing taste and nutrition in vegan food should not be a struggle for the average diner. Soul Santé is not only a reflection of her years of training and culinary expertise, but also of her understanding of the human body and its dietary needs. As a result, diners know without a doubt, that Soul Santé Cafe is an authentic healthy food establishment. And why wait for the gym or your daily run? How about burning that extra adipose tissue while sipping on your morning coffee? Check out Soul Santé’s neat bicycle seating!

Soul Santé is also an active supporter of green initiatives, and has committed itself to reducing its carbon footprint on the environment. All appliances run on electricty and the use of gas has been completely eliminated. They have minimized single-use plastic and have opted for biodegradable packing brought from recycled sources. Even bottled water is only available in glass packaging, in stark contrast to the majority of eateries where plastic bottled water is served.

According to recent studies, while meat and dairy provide just 18% of calories and 37% of protein, they use 83% of agricultural land and produce 60% of greenhouse gas emissions. 86% of all land mammals are now human livestock. Today, scientists across the world have unanimously voted that avoiding meat and dairy is the single most powerful way to reduce human impact on Earth. It is no wonder then that veganism is on the rise.

Stereotypically, the idea of a vegan diet brings to mind a vague idea of lettuce and dry grains. To a lot of people, veganism seems devoid of the regular gastronomic pleasures of life. It seems unpalatable, lacking in protein and leaves one famished. This is an assumption, but definitely not a fact. And Soul Santé will prove you wrong! Just check out some of the delicious dishes that I discovered!

Eggless Omelette

Soul Santé’s signature dish, the Eggless Omelette is a winner with everyone, including me! This lentil based omelette comes drizzled with mayo and a side of pineapple. For any South Indians like me, this omelette version reminds me strongly of Pesarattu Dosa, a crepe-like bread native to the southern part of the Indian subcontinent.

Avocado Toastie

One of the many unique attributes of Soul Santé Cafe is that they bake their own Keto bread on site. As a result, every bite you take is proof that freshness is a quality that Soul Santé does not compromise on.

Butternut Soup

Soup is a make-or-break deal for me. A great tasting soup kindles the taste buds to anticipate an even better main course. As opposed to falling flat and tasting prosaic, Soul Santé perfectly captures the characteristic sweet, nutty flavour of the butternut squash. Yum Yum Yummy!

Rocket Avocado Salad

An incurable avocado addict, Soul Santé delightfully allows me to indulge my affliction. For once a salad is actually healthy, not dripping in fatty dressing or stuffed with cheese, crotons and other “extras”.

Roasted Sweet Potato and Broccoli

Having voraciously dug into sweet potato dishes at American Thanksgiving dinners for lack of other meatless options, my desire for the root vegetable was best limited to fries. This roasted combination of sweet potatoes and broccoli in tandem with homemade pesto sauce may just be the breakthrough I am looking for at Soul Santé. 🙂

Beetroot Sliders

This creative twist by Soul Santé on your average hamburger is both striking and delicious. Who said you are missing out when there’s no meat or dairy? Watch out McDonald’s!

Key Lime Pie

A sweet treat is the ultimate finale to any fine meal. And today, diners are forever on the lookout for healthy desserts. This Key Lime Pie from Soul Santé is the epitomy of high taste and low fat. Because a tinge of lime is always refreshing.

Chocolate Cupcake

Chocolate symbolizes desire, passion and is the ultimate stress-buster. But it also symbolizes growing waistlines and hateful weighing scales. At Soul Santé, they believe in keeping the romance alive and the bulges down! It’s a win-win for all. 😉

Soul Santé is open daily from 8am–10pm, located in Jannah Place, Dubai Marina, Dubai. For more information about Soul Santé and to stay up-to-date with their latest news follow @soulsantecafe on Facebook and Instagram.
