DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Residences | Al Barsha, Dubai

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Life in a metro is hectic and Dubai is no different. Since the coronavirus pandemic broke out, our travel plans have been pretty much shot. So when restrictions eased up, Amma and I decided to go for a staycation in Dubai itself. Considering Dubai is such a big tourist destination, it is not uncommon for residents to take a holiday within the emirate or country itself.

Amma and I chose the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Residences in Al Barsha. We knew our safety would be ensured through the Hilton CleanStay with Lysol Protection and that disinfection was given top priority. All employees had been vaccinated and trained in sanitization protocols.

Accommodation

Note: This accommodation was on a discounted offer when we checked in at the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha. The rates have changed since then because Dubai is hosting the World Expo in October 2021.

Our King Two Bedroom Apartment came with free housekeeping services once a week with toiletries, towels, bedsheets and beverages. There is a microwave, induction cooktop and fridge. However, Al Barsha is a bustling area with the Mall of the Emirates, supermarkets and restaurants all within a 10-15 minute walking radius. So we rarely did any cooking. Free maintenance is included that covers appliances, electrical and plumbing. We also had a fantastic view of the mall, the Burj Khalifa and the Burj Al Arab.

I loved everything about our apartment at the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha. It was spacious for two people and had great sound proofing. So you don’t hear your neighbors at all. The only complaint I had was the construction noise because the hotel is located bang next to a major construction site. But our sales manager Mauricio Salilin had the windows double sealed to keep the noise out. This guy is the best. Awesome, very friendly and basically a good-hearted chap. He is extremely understanding of the customer’s needs, and I recommend doing all your bookings with him. (FYI The sealing helped but didn’t obliterate the noise completely and we had no choices but to deal with it.)

Housekeeping

While the cleaning and disinfection was great and the team always did an amazing job, their efficiency really needs improvement. They always forgot something. The towels. The toiletries. The beverages. Whenever I would return to the apartment, I always had to call them for towels. It’s a patience game and can be aggravating for some guests.

Front Desk, Security & Concierge

Probably one of the greatest plus points of the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha had to be its staff. Hands down, they are the friendliest people I have ever seen and really go out of their way to make you comfortable. Don’t forget their freshly baked delicious cookies!!! Amma was instantly addicted to them!

I really enjoyed my conversations with Athuman, Kevin and Pullaiah. These guys were not just transporting luggage. They were always laughing, so upbeat, talking about the news, and had a really positive vibe about them. I always looked forward to catching up with them. Really miss these guys.

Jennifer is my home girl through and through. She is super professional and is on point with everything. She made our stay easy, comfortable and carefree. Big thumbs up for her.

A special note here for Mohammed Shabeeb, Shaadi, Hala and Bethlehem. Though our professional interactions have been minimal, they have been extremely supportive to both Amma and I. In terms of personal security, assurance whenever we were stressed, and in general, always checking in to see how we were…. they really touched our hearts. May Allah bless you always.

Parking

The basement parking is a total nightmare and is a complete no-no if you are heavily pregnant. Whoever designed the parking must have been in a sadistic mood. The entrance and exit are the same, and is so narrow that you have half an arm’s separation from the vehicle next to you. Since the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha is located right next to a construction site, there are also other vehicles like vans, buses and trucks blocking the area.

The parking itself is a whole another level of freaky. Everything is so narrow, including two-ways. There are plenty of blind corners and we would honk to warn any potential cars or pedestrians. The slopes are steep and there are cars parked right at the base and top of each slope. You really need to break hard to prevent crashing into anyone. The parking spaces are tight and ill-fitted into every nook and cranny available. I recommend parking in the 3rd level. It takes longer to get there, but it’s so worth it because it’s always empty.

We didn’t use the car often during our stay, so it was not a big problem. But a lot of guests preferred to park their vehicle outside the hotel in the street, even if it was metered parking. If you will be using your car everyday, then the parking at the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha will be a royal pain in the ass.

Dining

Really really really loved the food here. With my Mom being vegetarian and I being vegan, it’s really hard to come by delicious food that isn’t overloaded with cheese and calories (a meek attempt to offer us something apart from lettuce). But the bistro in the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha does an amazing job of ensuring that plant-based diners have a yummilicous meal that is nutritious as well as releases fireworks in the mouth. No lie, we ordered this same meal twice!

– Fresh Watermelon and Lemon Mint Juices

– Penne Arrabiata

– Homemade Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli

The staff are also super friendly and really attentive toward the needs of the diners. Chef Renjith changed the base sauce of the ravioli into a spicy tomato gravy because my Mom is allergic to mushrooms. This was just superb. I also really appreciated Chef Ali coming on his day off to check in with our dining feedback. It’s these little details that making dining here such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this place to all plant-based diners, even if you are not a guest at the DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha.

Final Notes

Personally, life has been a series of trauma, recuperation and healing over the past few years. It has been tough on both Amma and I. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Psychologically.

Thank you DoubleTree Hilton Al Barsha for giving a much needed break to Amma and I. It was a crucial part of our healing and we are eternally grateful. Your employees are simply outstanding, and are the perfect example of hospitality and customer care with a generous dose of warmth and love. We will return without a doubt.
